Eurasian Coalition on Health, Rights, Gender, and Sexual Diversity (ECOM) invites to take part in a new format – “Community of Practice.” This is a series of thematic online meetings where participants will have the opportunity to share their own experience and discuss relevant practical issues with colleagues.
The meeting is organized by ECOM within the framework of the project “RESILIENT Communities & Securing Civic Space for HIV Response in EECA,” implemented jointly with other regional community networks – EHRA, EWNA, and SWAN.
The first meeting “Community of Practice: Advocacy” will take place on April 23 at 11:00 a.m. Tallinn time.
Please, REGISTER as a speaker or participant.
At the first meeting, participants will discuss advocacy and the documentation of rights violations in an environment where civil society space is shrinking. If you or your organization work in the field of documentation of violations and advocacy, please join us to share your successes and challenges.
What topics will we cover:
- methods for secure documentation (case collection and verification, data storage and protection);
- digital security tools (encryption, anonymization, information protection);
- approaches to advocacy in closed and repressive contexts (including the use of international mechanisms, coalitions, and indirect strategies);
- risk management (safety of teams and beneficiaries, responding to threats);
- practical case studies: what worked and which approaches proved ineffective.
Meeting facilitators — members of the ECOM Steering Committee:
- Aidar Kapasov, Director of the Human Health Institute NGO, with 13 years of experience in the NGO sector, Chair of the ECOM Steering Committee. Over 9 years of experience in HIV and STI prevention.
- Denis Oleynik, Executive Director of the LGBTQ+ group Coming Out, member of the ECOM Steering Committee. Over 13 years of experience in the NGO sector, including HIV and STI prevention among MSM.
